Germany effort 2018-2020

Germany is one of Denmark’s most important partners, not only in the EU but also in Europe as a whole – a cultural kindred spirit, a major importer of Danish goods and a source of inspiration.

The Agency for Culture and Palaces will use the Germany effort to build upon the existing cultural exchanges between Denmark and Germany. From the celebration of the reunification with Southern Jutland in 2020, to cooperation around cultural history and cultural export.

German influence on Danish art

The linguistic and cultural connections between the two nations have always been strong. Over the centuries countless Danish artists have travelled to Germany, returning with powerful and lasting impressions. Visits to Denmark by German artists have also helped to strengthen and develop Danish culture, encouraging internationalisation and promoting the emergence of both the national and international cultural scenes.

Good neighbourly relations

Geographically, Germany is the only country with whom Denmark shares a land border. This border region has served as a prime example of how to develop positive and fruitful relations between neighbouring states. Naturally, the two countries also share cultural interests and values that, in many ways, reflect each other.
