Digital development

In today's knowledge society, the Danish people's access to information is increasingly digital. This implies that the public libraries need to have efficient digital communication if they are to promote information, development and cultural activity.

A committee on the public libraries in the knowledge society recommends the establishment of the Danish Digital Library as a joint digital communication platform for the Danish people. This will enable the libraries to offer not only physical materials but also digital media such as films, games, music and literature. It will also give users access to new experiences, digitalised cultural heritage and networks with other users via social media.

If established, the Digital Library will appear as a common entrance to the libraries on the internet, and it will contribute to users meeting the libraries in other parts of the internet where this is relevant.
