World Heritage Sites

Denmark has seven sites on the World Heritage List, and the Arctic island of Greenland, which is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, has three sites on the List.

The World Heritage List is maintained by The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

UNESCO CONVENTION

UNESCO seeks to encourage the identification, protection and preservation of cultural and natural heritage around the world considered to be of outstanding value to humanity. This was embodied in an international treaty, adopted by UNESCO in 1972:
